Kingstown, St. Vincent & the Grenadines – On June 22, 2025, World Pediatrics returned to the Milton Cato Memorial Hospital (MCMH) with a General Orthopedics team, delivering vital care to children from St. Vincent and the Grenadines, St. Lucia, and St. Kitts.
Led by Dr. Eric Gordon, the team evaluated 53 children with lower extremity orthopedic complications including limb length discrepancies, club feet, and Blount’s disease (commonly known as “bowlegs”). The multi-disciplinary team also included anesthesiologist Dr. TJ Lockhart, orthopedic fellow Dr. Meg Cornaghie, orthotist Jacob Mattingly, OR technicians Brad Powell and Dwayne Johnson, physical therapist Donna Griffin, registered nurse Jill Hahn, and OrthoPediatrics representative Jessica Hasset.
Local medical professionals including Drs. Charles Woods and Jasmine Davy-Ellis, as well as MCMH physiotherapist Janelle Ballah, worked alongside the visiting team. Additional support during clinic day and the surgical week was provided by MCMH staff and operating room nurses.
Following clinic evaluations and surgical planning, the team scheduled and performed 19 surgeries between June 23 and June 26. Among the cases, one emergency stood out — a young man who fractured his femur in a fall at home during the clinic. Though not initially scheduled, the team swiftly assessed and operated on him, highlighting their adaptability and commitment to care.
“I am beyond grateful for this experience and my son being able to receive the treatment he needed. They made sure we were well-informed every step of the way,” shared one parent of a child who underwent surgery.
World Pediatrics and the visiting team extended heartfelt thanks to the Tawani Foundation, whose sponsorship made the mission possible and positively impacted the lives of children and their families across the region.
Up next for St. Vincent are two more World Pediatrics teams — Speech and Language Therapy, and Physical and Occupational Therapy — continuing the organization’s mission to ensure no child is left behind.
