If there were any doubts about the credibility of a poll that circulated mid-last year—one that positioned Kishore Shallow as a favoured choice for leadership in St. Vincent and the Grenadines—Prime Minister Ralph Gonsalves’ reaction has only added weight to its accuracy. Since Shallow’s candidacy in North Leeward for the New Democratic Party was announced last September, the Unity Labour Party leader appears to be floundering, resorting to cheap insults in a desperate attempt to steady his increasingly unstable—some might say sinking—political ship. Shallow has ignited a political supernova, shaking the very foundation of the ruling party and leaving its…
Below is a statement from Kenna Questelles, the Independent Candidate for West St. George. Kingstown, February 18, 2025—In response to the February 12, 2025 ruling by the Eastern Caribbean Court of Appeal regarding the COVID-19 Vaccine Mandate case, I am deeply saddened by the ruling and I express my utmost solidarity with the public servants who were unjustly dismissed. No government in a democratic and free state should be allowed to infringe on the rights of its citizens. The severe impact the mandate has had on hundreds of educators and their families has trickled into unforeseen…
Reports have emerged that parents are being asked to collect their children from the St. Vincent Girls’ High School (GHS) in Kingstown due to a suspected flea and tick infestation. One parent confirmed receiving information about the issue. This situation is reminiscent of previous incidents at GHS. In April 2024, both GHS and Thomas Saunders Secondary School were temporarily closed to address a flea infestation, reportedly caused by stray dogs in the area. Similarly, in February 2022, GHS shifted to virtual classes after students were bitten by fleas, with stray dogs under the temporary structures being the suspected source. Fleas…

Prime Minister Dr. Ralph Gonsalves has indicated that he may continue appointing an Attorney General from the civil service rather than selecting a political figure for the role. Speaking in an interview with ANN, Gonsalves addressed concerns about the current Attorney General, Grenville Williams, and his involvement in active politics. When asked about the possibility of a new appointment, he stated, “We will cross that bridge when we get there.” Gonsalves emphasized that the constitution allows for either a political or civil servant Attorney General but pointed to past issues with politically appointed individuals under the New Democratic Party (NDP).…
Prime Minister Dr. Ralph Gonsalves has described Julian Francis as the best political General Secretary the region has seen. Speaking in a brief interview with Asberth News Network (ANN), Dr. Gonsalves responded to concerns about Francis’ health and how it might impact the Unity Labour Party’s (ULP) performance in the upcoming general elections. “A 100% fit Julian is formidable,” Gonsalves stated. “He is still there with his wit, and he will be there to guide because we have other people. He can’t do the work like before—working the long hours and doing the physical work—but you don’t replace a man…
The New Democratic Party (NDP) is disappointed with the ruling on Wednesday 12th February 2025 by the Eastern Caribbean Court of Appeal in the Vaccine Mandate Case between the government of St Vincent and the Grenadines and the public sector unions. The court ruled in favour of the government. We believe that the ruling of the Court of Appeal has dampened the hopes of the teachers, police and other public sector workers. While the government had the right to appeal the High Court’s ruling, it was incomprehensible why the government took such action against the workers of the state; a government…
