By Anthony Stewart, PhD I am ashamed when I observe the treatment of our Vincentian Women. Most of them were born here but some came from abroad and settled into our culture. They are among the most beautiful of women in the world. They are friendly, hospitable, sexy, loving and family oriented. They have a genuine, caring personality and above all, they are Godfearing. They are excellent cooks and nutritionists, feeding their children and spouses well, sometimes going hungry when the food is insufficient. I hardly took sick leave from work because my wife’s good food kept me healthy. They…

Dear Editor, Whenever acts of violence arise from a political, social, or cultural dispute, condemnation of one party to the dispute tends to provoke scepticism as to whether other parties are receiving equal scrutiny. Feelings being what they are, the suspicion runs deep, but is sometimes more emotional than factual. That said, when condemnations of acts of violence appear to be unfairly "selective", selective as to victim and perpetrator, what was once mere skepticism of a one-sided anti-violence discourse takes on new life as fact. What transpired on Thursday, August 5, 2021 was appalling by any standard. The wanton disregard by the alleged perpetrator, for…

One of the hallmarks of any parliamentary democracy is the debate that occurs in the House of Assembly between the representatives of the people duly elected in democratically conducted elections. The legislative process is designed to ensure that in our case, elected representatives are able to scrutinise bills before they are passed into law. The robust debates that occur during meetings of the Parliament are fundamental to the maintenance of a vibrant democracy and should be protected at all times. Prior to the Unity Labour Party government, the meetings of the House were held almost in secrecy with no broadcasts…

(Issued by the Office of the Prime Minister, SVG) INTRODUCTION Contrary to what some misguided, ill-informed or politically-jaundiced persons have argued, there are several provisions in the Constitution of St. Vincent and the Grenadines which permit a requirement for vaccination against Covid-19 for particular jobs or jobs generally. Further, such a requirement for vaccination does not demand a declaration of a state of emergency under the Constitution. Indeed, statute law (an Act of Parliament or appropriate Rules made under an Act) suffices, so long as the Act or Rules are not unconstitutional. Last year, in St. Vincent and the Grenadines,…

Asberth News Network was able to reliably confirm, from multiple sources, a police raid that was conducted at the Eyries bar and restaurant located at Kings Hill, Diamond mid Thursday morning. This establishment is widely known to be owned and operated by the legally ensnared, longtime conman who goes by the sobriquet Tombstone. Efforts to capture visual evidence of the police action were thwarted as one heavily armed Rapid Response Unit (Black Squad) officer vehemently protested against one freelancer’s attempt. Alistair ‘Tombstone’ Millington-Smith was hauled before Magistrate Bertie Pompey, last month, at the Mesopotamia Magistrate’s Court on traffic offences and…

(CMC) — Barbados’ Chief Medical Officer Dr Kenneth George disclosed Wednesday that the Ministry of Health is investigating the deaths of about two vaccinated people to determine if there was any link to the COVID-19 jab.
