WASHINGTON (AP) — The government’s top infectious disease expert said Friday he hopes to see children being vaccinated starting in the next few months. It’s a needed step to securing widespread immunity to the coronavirus. “Hopefully by the time we get to the late spring and early summer we will have children being able to be vaccinated,” Dr. Anthony Fauci said during the White House coronavirus briefing. Vaccines are not yet approved for children, and Fauci was looking ahead to a time they will be plentiful. Even older adults are having difficulty getting shots at the moment. As of Thursday,…

France said on Friday that it would close its borders to non-European Union countries as cases rise and the government struggles to avoid a new lockdown. Jean Castex, the French prime minister, said that all travel between France and nations outside of the E.U. would be banned starting on Sunday, with exceptions made only for urgent matters. All travelers from E.U. countries, except for cross-border workers, will have to present a negative coronavirus test to enter the country, Mr. Castex added. New Democratic Party (NDP) Member of Parliament Dwight Fitz Bramble declared on Wednesday that Prime Minister Dr Ralph Gonsalves was misleading the House of Assembly when he claimed that he (Dr Gonsalves) had made him deputy at the foreign office in Washington. Prime Minister Gonsalves, commenting on Bramble’s contribution to the debate on the 2021 budget estimates, chided him for criticizing the government for allocating two percent of the estimated $1.21 billion budget to foreign trade. The Prime Minister went on to tell the House that Bramble, as a former diplomat, should “have a conscience” because after all it was…

PARIS, France (AFP)— COVID-19 may damage sperm quality and reduce fertility in men, according to a new study based on experimental evidence. The viral disease — which has swept the globe, claiming nearly 2.2 million lives — can cause increased sperm cell death, inflammation and so-called oxidative stress, researchers reported Friday in the journal Reproduction. “These findings provide the first direct experimental evidence that the male reproductive system could be targeted and damaged by COVID-19,” the authors concluded. Experts commenting on the research, however, said the capacity of the virus to compromise fertility in men remains unproven. COVID-19 causes respiratory…

Fri, Jan 29, 2021 Even before Covid-19, VAT was sucking the lifeblood out of poor households, killing businesses and our economy. The high rate of VAT has caused many businesses to record their lowest levels of sales in over 40 years, forcing them to close and put their employees on the breadline. In addition, VAT has decimated the rural economy. About 90% of the revenue collected by the incompetent ULP government is from taxes and fines imposed upon businesses and our people. In this extra hard time of Covid-19, government must reduce the tax burden on businesses and our people,…
