(SPORTMAX)Former Cricket West Indies (CWI) boss, Dave Cameron, is now looking further afield at the possibility of becoming chairman of the International Cricket Council (ICC). According to reports, Cameron will be seeking nominations for the post but is yet to make a request that the CWI support his bid. It is not certain if the CWI would support a bid from Cameron either after the former boss and the man who ousted him, Ricky Skerritt, had very public differences, not just during their election campaigns, but recently. By Judy Grant On a warm summer evening in 2016, While patrolling in a police cruiser along the Eglinton Avenue West neighbourhood in Toronto, I pulled into a parking lot. Many who lived in the neighbourhood knew me and were aware that I had joined the Toronto Police Service, just like I told them I would. Many of the Black people in that community were proud of me despite their everyday challenges with the police. They expressed that they were happy that a Black woman, from the Caribbean, was wearing a police uniform. I had recently been promoted to the…

“From all indication, LIAT will be liquidated,” Prime Minister Gaston Browne has just announced. The Prime Minister said there will be a meeting of all shareholders shortly to discuss collapsing LIAT. A new entity will be formed. “COVID would have actually, let’s say increased the losses exponentially, so whereas in all of 2019 LIAT made a loss of about EC$12 million, that was within the means of the shareholder governments to subsidize,” Browne said on local radio in Antigua. “You would have found that since COVID, the planes have been grounded, they have to pay the lease payments and they…

Donald Trump admitted Friday that his opponent Joe Biden may be elected president in November. Speaking on Fox News during a town hall hosted by Sean Hannity, Trump, 74, first attacked Biden, 77, saying that the former vice president “can’t put two sentences together.” “I don’t want to be nice or un-nice, okay? But I mean, the man can’t speak,” Trump said, falling back on one of his repeated critiques of Biden. “And he’s going to be your president ’cause some people don’t love me, maybe, and you know, all I’m doing is doing my job.” Trump’s disapproval hit a…

By Shaquan Sam Opinion: For as long as I can remember, my mom has been telling me to beware of the company I keep. When I was a little younger, she told me to stay away from a particular person but, I didn’t listen to her. It is not that she thinks I am better than anyone because I also have my shortcomings, but this child is way out of line. At his tender age, he smokes, drinks and is very unmannerly. One of the reasons why you should choose your friends wisely is that people label you. For instance,…

It is a painful experience to listen to persons of influence say there is no racism in SVG. Some say that there is colourism, by which they mean discrimination based on skin colour. And you got it: the darker the skin, the greater the discrimination; the lighter the skin tone, the more privileged the daily life experiences. Clearly, colourism is the twin sister of racism. It flows from the same demented head and has identical destructive effect and impact. Racism is where systems are put in place to keep people in their place. Colourism manifests itself in a similar fashion.…
