By Casey Alecander Calvert Richards, a 37 years old Calder resident, was hauled before the Kingstown Magistrate Court last Wednesday July 29 to answer to charges that he stole a quantity of items from Massy Stores in Kingstown. Richards is evidently not a stranger to the justice system as Court records showed that similar charges have been brought against him, several of which are still pending. This prompted Senior Magistrate Rickie Burnett to urge the unemployed man to put an end to his thievery even as he accepted the defendant’s proffered guilty plea. The Court learnt that Richards was observed…

(JAMAICA GLEANER) — Sherine Virgo said she will not cut her seven-year-old daughter’s hair despite yesterday’s court ruling that Kensington Primary School did not breach her child’s constitutional rights when it denied her access in 2018 for having dreadlocks. “I will not be cutting her hair! That was never an option on the table. As it is right now, it seems that everything is going the homeschool direction anyways,” Virgo told The Gleaner after the Supreme Court ruling. The mother was told that her then five-year-old daughter would need to cut her hair before she could attend the school, which…

West Indies legend Sir Curtly Ambrose has admitted to some level of disappointment with the performance of young fast bowler Alzarri Joseph in the recently concluded series loss to England. The 23-year-old was tipped for a breakthrough performance ahead of the England series, but that promised failed to materialise. Joseph had several bright spells of bowling when the teams met in the Caribbean last year, but in the rematch on English soil, these were few and far between. Joseph claimed figures of 2 for 98 in the first Test, before getting 1 for 84 in the second Test. He was…

Iran’s government has also been accused of misreporting their case total, with the actual number being almost double what was reported. It has seen 451,024 cases of coronavirus, as opposed to the reported…
Nearly two weeks since his July 16 arraignment embattled jailer Kenson King was relieved, ad infinitum, of active duties at Her Majesty’s Prison last Tuesday July 28. The 33 year old Park Hill resident appeared before Magistrate Rickie Burnett; he pleaded not guilty to criminal charges of wounding an inmate entrusted to his care and was granted EC$2000.00 bail with one surety.
