A Flood-Watch is issued when conditions are favourable and there exists the possibility of flooding
\nduring the watch period.
\nTropical Depression thirteen (13) was upgraded to Tropical Storm Laura at 9 am this morning and at 2:00 pm,
\nthe centre of \u201cLaura\u201d was located near 17.0N, 60.8W or 175 miles east south east of the Northern Leeward
\nIslands.<\/p>\n
Instability associated with \u201cLaura\u201d could continue to generate moderate to heavy showers and
\nthunderstorm activity across Saint Vincent and the Grenadines into tomorrow.<\/p>\n
In addition, this system will generate wind speeds between 12 – 28 mph (20 – 45km\/h) with higher gusts near showers.<\/p>\n
Some stations across St.Vincent have already recorded significant rainfall accumulations today and there is a
\npossibility of an additional 25mm – 50mm (approximately 1-2 inches) with isolated higher amounts in
\nmountainous areas into Saturday.
\nSoils in some areas are saturated and some rivers remain inundated. As a result, a Flash-Flood Watch is
\nin effect for St. Vincent and the Grenadines from 4:00 p.m today, August 21st 2020 until 12:00 Noon
\nSaturday 22nd, 2020.<\/p>\n
Residents and motorists in areas prone to flooding and landslides or near rivers and streams should
\nexercise caution.<\/p>\n
In addition, sea conditions would be moderate in open water with swells between 2.0m and 2.5m. Small
\ncraft operators and sea bathers should exercise caution for above normal sea swells and gusty winds.<\/p>\n
