{"id":2021,"date":"2019-01-09T17:08:09","date_gmt":"2019-01-09T17:08:09","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/annsvg.com\/?p=2021"},"modified":"2019-01-09T17:08:15","modified_gmt":"2019-01-09T17:08:15","slug":"young-man-is-disabled-and-bedbound-after-selling-his-kidney-on-the-black-market-to-buy-an-iphone-and-ipad","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/annsvg.com\/index.php\/2019\/01\/09\/young-man-is-disabled-and-bedbound-after-selling-his-kidney-on-the-black-market-to-buy-an-iphone-and-ipad\/","title":{"rendered":"Young man is disabled and bedbound after selling his kidney on the black market to buy an iPhone and iPad"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">(DAILYMAIL) A young man who sold one of his kidneys as a teenager on the black market in order to buy a new iPhone and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailymail.co.uk\/sciencetech\/apple\/index.html\">iPad<\/a>\u00a0is now disabled, bedbound and needing constant care, according to recent reports on Chinese media.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The 25-year-old man, known by his surname Wang, had his kidney removed in an underground clinic before selling it on the black market for 22,000 yuan (\u00a32,528) in 2011 when he was just 17 years old.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The teenager wanted an iPhone and iPad desperately in order to prove to his classmates that he was trendy, but his cash-strapped parents could not afford them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">His story shocked the country at the time, leading iPhones to be billed as &#8216;kidney machines&#8217; by web users.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A picture released by Chinese media shows Wang lying in hospital bed to receive treatment seven years after selling one of his kidneys on the black market to afford an iPhone and iPad<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Wang sold his organ on the black market in 2011 when he was 17 years old throught three middlemen he chatted up on a messaging platform. Surgery took place at an uncertified clinic<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In order to raise funds for his gadgets, the high school student found three middlemen on a Chinese online chatting platform QQ, who promised to help him realise his dream &#8211; but at the cost of one kidney.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To complete the transaction, Wang travelled from his hometown in the eastern Anhui Province &#8211; one of China&#8217;s poorest provinces &#8211; to the southern Hunan Province in April, 2011.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He organised his travels secretly and neither of his parents was aware of his plan.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Upon his arrival, the middlemen introduced the boy to two surgeons, one surgeon&#8217;s assistant and one nurse, all of who worked at local hospitals and were moonlighting.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1\" height=\"1\" src=\"https:\/\/annsvg.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/image-26.gif\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2023\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It was the boy&#8217;s dream at the time to own an iPhone 4 (pictured) and an iPad 2. Reports at the time said the high school student wanted to show off the gadgets to his classmates<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">An operation soon took place at an uncertified clinic provided by one middleman to remove the right kidney from Wang, according to a report on&nbsp;<a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"http:\/\/news.cntv.cn\/society\/20120406\/116881.shtml\">CCTV.com<\/a>&nbsp;at the time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The kidney was then sold to a patient by the middlemen illegally and the recipient paid 150,000 yuan (\u00a317,258) as well as $10,000 (\u00a37,860) for the organ.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Wang was paid 22,000 yuan &#8211; 10 per cent of the total profit &#8211; while the middlemen kept the majority of the money.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The boy immediately bought an iPhone 4 and an iPad 2 with the money before returning to Anhui Province.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">His mother only discovered the situation when she saw him with his new digital products.
