{"id":2178,"date":"2019-01-17T06:19:34","date_gmt":"2019-01-17T06:19:34","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/annsvg.com\/?p=2178"},"modified":"2019-01-17T06:24:23","modified_gmt":"2019-01-17T06:24:23","slug":"health-department-and-taiwanese-medical-team-holds-workshop-on-diabetes-care","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/annsvg.com\/index.php\/2019\/01\/17\/health-department-and-taiwanese-medical-team-holds-workshop-on-diabetes-care\/","title":{"rendered":"\ufeffHealth Department and Taiwanese Medical Team holds workshop on Diabetes Care"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Prediabetes Local health\npractitioners are meeting at the Methodist Church Hall this week in a\nconsultation and workshop as part of the \u201cIntegrated Team-Based Care Model for\nDiabetes.\u201d&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The\nconsultation and workshop are the first of three components of the capacity\nbuilding project for the prevention and control of diabetes; a partnership\nbetween the Governments of the Republic of China on Taiwan and St. Vincent and\nthe Grenadines.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The\none week consultation and workshop has as its main objective to design a model\nof care for type 2 diabetes that is integrated, team based, patient-centered\nand addresses lifestyle risk factors and self-management.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Speaking\nat a brief ceremony to officially open the workshop on Monday January 14th,\n2019 Chief Health Promotion Officer in the Ministry of Health Patsy Wyllie, who\nwas part of a three member team which visited Taiwan to observe and gather\ninformation about Taiwan\u2019s model of the program, applauded the partnership\nwhich she said has an investment of two million dollars. Wyllie said that they\nare fully aware of the impact of diabetes on individuals, families and the\ncountry and that the investment and expertise of the Taiwanese is welcomed in\nthe fight against diabetes in SVG.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-gallery columns-1 is-cropped wp-block-gallery-1 is-layout-flex wp-block-gallery-is-layout-flex\"><li class=\"blocks-gallery-item\"><figure><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1280\" height=\"720\" src=\"https:\/\/i1.wp.com\/annsvg.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/Dr.-Del-Hamiltom.jpg?fit=1024%2C576\" alt=\"\" data-id=\"2179\" data-link=\"https:\/\/annsvg.com\/?attachment_id=2179\" class=\"wp-image-2179\" srcset=\"https:\/\/annsvg.com\/the-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/Dr.-Del-Hamiltom.jpg 1280w, https:\/\/annsvg.com\/the-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/Dr.-Del-Hamiltom-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/annsvg.com\/the-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/Dr.-Del-Hamiltom-768x432.jpg 768w, https:\/\/annsvg.com\/the-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/Dr.-Del-Hamiltom-1024x576.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1280px) 100vw, 1280px\" \/><figcaption>Dr. Del Hamilton<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Dr.\nYung-Wei Hsu who is leading the Taiwanese Medical team here to help implement\nthe project said he hopes through the program to contribute to helping people\nwho are suffering with diabetes. He added that his hospital in Taiwan is\ncredited with being the first to implement the team care model in his country\nand that his team has more than twenty years of experience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And\nDr. Del Hamilton the project coordinator explained that there are three\ncomponents to the project. The first component is being done through the week\nlong consultation and workshop. The second component of the project deals with\nheath care facilities. Dr. Hamilton said that this has to do with providing\ntraining for local health care providers adding that one such group has already\nvisited Taiwan for two months and another group of at least ten will be\nvisiting shortly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The\nthird component will look at community participation, more specifically,\nself-based care.
