Three businesses have won the \u201cEntrepreneurial Elite Award\u201d in the
\nBusiness Plan Competition of the Women\u2019s Empowerment Project \u2013 SVG
\nsponsored by the government of the Republic of China (Taiwan).
\nOn 8 th March (International Women\u2019s Day), Ambassador Peter Sha-Li Lan,
\nHon. Camillo Gonsalves, Minister of Finance, Hon. Orando Brewster,
\nMinister of National Mobilisation and Gender Affairs, and Hon. Keisal
\nPeters, Minister of State with Responsibility for Foreign Affairs and
\nForeign Trade, presented awards and cheques of EC$26,000 to each winner
\nat the Embassy of the Republic of China (Taiwan). The winners are Jessica
\nJaja form Bequia Threadworks, Sophia Searles of Searles Agro Products,
\nand Kenna Questelles of Kinexxio.
\nAmbassador Lan explained that the Women\u2019s Empowerment Project – SVG
\nis a mega project in response to the impact of COVID-19 and volcanic
\neruption of La Soufri\u00e8re, which comprised several components, such as
\nvocational skills training, business counseling and the program of
\nInternational Initiative. The winners were among the participants of the
\n\u201cEntrepreneurial Elite Award\u201d project in the second half of 2021. There
\nwould be two more rounds of the same training courses to be executed
\nduring the first and second half of this year.
\nAmbassador Lan therefore encouraged Vincentian women from every walk
\nof life to participate in all the projects under the Women\u2019s Empowerment
\nProject.<\/p>\n
Hon. Minister Gonsalves congratulated the winners of \u201cEntrepreneurial
\nElite Award\u201d on their achievements in excelling in the keen competition.
\nHe said the small and medium enterprises were greatly impacted by the
\npandemic and the volcanic eruption, hence the \u201cEntrepreneurial Elite
\nAward\u201d would enable the winners to facilitate their business plans and
\ncould serve as models for other women to develop the spirit of
\nentrepreneurship.
\nHon. Minister Brewster said in his remarks that after intensive training and
\nrigorous procedure, the winners had proved that they had the capabilities of
\nrealizing their remarkable business plans. Both Ministers thanked the
\nRepublic of China (Taiwan) as the genuine partner in the development of St
\nVincent and the Grenadines, and urged all Vincentian women to grasp the
\nopportunity to join in the project.
\nHon. Minister Peters conveyed greetings in a pre-recorded video on the day
\nrecognized as International Women\u2019s Day. She also noted that the last two
\nyears have been difficult for the women of Saint Vincent and the
\nGrenadines. In light of the foregoing, the Government of the Republic of
\nChina (Taiwan) would be collaborating with the Government of Saint
\nVincent and the Grenadines to present the Women\u2019s Empowerment Project.
\nShe urged Vincentian women, including civil society organizations to take
\nadvantage of this grand opportunity.
\nThe winners of \u201cEntrepreneurial Elite Award\u201d on the second half of 2021
\nare Bequia Threadworks, Searles Agro Products and Kinexxio. Each of
\nthem was granted a trophy and the fund of EC$26,000 to help them
\naccelerate their business plans.
\nThe Women\u2019s Empowerment Project \u2013 SVG is co-sponsored by the
\nGovernment of the Republic of China (Taiwan) and the Government of
\nSaint Vincent and the Grenadines, and is being implemented by the Taiwan
\nTechnical Mission, Centre for Enterprise Development (CED) and<\/p>\n
