LIAT, The Caribbean Airline will continue flying
\nacross the region. This statement comes from the Chief Executive Officer, Mrs. Julie Reifer-
\nJones in response to recent media reports about the airline. She is reassuring passengers
\nthat the airline will continue to operate in a safe and efficient manner to provide
\nconnectivity and service to the region.
\nMrs. Reifer-Jones noted that while the airline is in a challenging financial situation, LIAT
\nhas continued flying through the region with support from its principal shareholders: the
\nGovernments of Barbados, Antigua & Barbuda, St. Vincent & the Grenadines and Dominica.
\nShe noted, however, that the airline has also been operating to destinations where there
\nhas been no support from governments and authorities to ensure that critical connectivity
\nremains.
\nMrs. Jones advised that the current discussions with Regional Governments are intended
\nto put in place new arrangements which provide a basis for sharing the burden amongst
\nall the countries currently benefitting from LIAT\u2019s services. She also noted that all
\nstakeholders, whether labour, suppliers or financiers will be called upon to make
\nadjustments aimed at achieving a viable airline operation.
\nThe airline has already been working to improve its On-Time Performance, and she
\nindicated that 83% of the airline\u2019s flights were on time in 2018.
\nThe airline is currently undergoing a restructuring exercise which is expected to improve
\nthe operations of the airline as the company moves to build a sustainable model.
