{"id":3341,"date":"2019-03-30T20:32:01","date_gmt":"2019-03-30T20:32:01","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/annsvg.com\/?p=3341"},"modified":"2019-03-30T20:32:11","modified_gmt":"2019-03-30T20:32:11","slug":"cdb-fund-sandy-bay-sea-defence-resilience-project","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/annsvg.com\/index.php\/2019\/03\/30\/cdb-fund-sandy-bay-sea-defence-resilience-project\/","title":{"rendered":"CDB fund Sandy Bay Sea Defence Resilience Project"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"> <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The\nGovernment of St. Vincent and the Grenadines is receiving support from the\nCaribbean Development Bank (CDB), to boost its ongoing efforts to tackle\nclimate change.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The\nBoard of Directors of the CDB has approved financing of 13.4 million U.S\nDollars to enhance resilience of Sandy Bay and other North Windward communities\nto coastal hazards and the potential impacts of climate change. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Sandy Bay Sea Defence Resilience Project\naims to reduce the rate of coastal erosion, through the construction of sea\ndefences in sections along the Sandy Bay coastline.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Daniel Best, Director\nof Projects at the CDB said the Project will reduce the vulnerability of\nSandy Bay and other North Windward communities to aggressive coastal erosion,\ncaused by wave action and storm surges associated with the passing of tropical\nstorms and hurricanes. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Mr. Best said the\nerosion of the Sandy Bay coastline threatens the Windward Highway and the\nsocial and economic activities of the surrounding community.&nbsp;&nbsp; He noted that the Windward Highway provides\nthe community\u2019s only access to key economic activities, including the\ngeothermal site currently under development and to popular attractions in the\nnorth-eastern section of the coast.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The key project components include: preparation of a feasibility study inclusive of an environmental and social monitoring plan; construction of sea defences along approximately 730 metres of shoreline, as well as auxiliary works such as green space and pavement construction; engineering and construction-related services; and project management, monitoring and evaluation.  The CDB says the investment is consistent with the Bank\u2019s <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"http:\/\/r20.rs6.net\/tn.jsp?f=001ii6QiFdxdWpfXOxjy0uVD9V5W5yGDC4rQnzHvzo1RTJdIhhg0bD4g0eEKj1el96mWsuMOCWHTDUkAImuBphpNO71T68ekPAMuIg7UmpV8U4PPQbHq--SSRtaE-PzR3-1bIF8ZY-tPzDZfHWMHxiOOSQiQkGSYhe0rvizUTLXC21hKisLQNJtlc5T2Y__YeIReiScXTNbJR8JhRZZj920EGzKxP02hOWnB8GgWQ61l8I=&amp;c=Y3ca3uizHNmVOgm4Si83buEF9kk0DCIO9vL-7pDdZhvbWYA-r70kCQ==&amp;ch=O4Lhfa1WcYNorH27H1XhzWRZz_5h3S_2SqbWFTiLxnPPBebc_y2S0w==\" target=\"_blank\">Disaster Management Strategy and Operational Guidelines<\/a>, and Climate Resilience Strategy. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This\ninitiative also supports the vision of the Government of St. Vincent and the\nGrenadines to improve the quality of life for all of its citizen, as outlined\nin the National Economic and Social Development Plan&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; (2013-2025).
