A few days ago, Hon. Israel R Bruce Opposition Senator expressed public commendation to Gabrial WEB Smart of Long Piece, South Central Windward, having risk his own life to save that of 14 year old Kishon Pope of San Souci, Bruce described the act of Smart as that of courage, selflessness and.
Senator Bruce gave a commitment then to recognize Mr. Smart when he stated, \u201cI propose to recognize this young constituent for his bravery, courage, commitment and great act of humanity even if in small measures\u201d. Today 24th day of September 2025 Senator Bruce handed over to Gabriel \u201cWEB\u201d Smart a plaque which demonstrates that recognition.\u00a0 He also handed over a small cash contribution too Smart for his heroic undertaking.
Present at the handing over was Kishon Pope the North Union Secondary School student, who thanked Smart for saving his like and who encouraged other children that they must be very careful if they have to use the San Souci beach. Pope who resides with his mother, grandmother and other family members said he was grateful to be alive as at one point he felt that he was going to die.
Pope stated that \u201cthe water was really rough, me bin ah think me dead now\u201d
Smart expressed thanks to Senator Bruce for recognizing him and stated that he appreciated the fact that his act was recognized. Said he felt happy that he did what he has done to save Pope\u2019s life.\u00a0 He stated that this is not the first time he has done such act.\u00a0 He expressed regrets that he could not save the son of Othniel Delpeche, who died on the same beach a few years ago. Said fright overtook him then.
He advised that youngsters should have an older person with them.\u00a0 He recognized that they may not have an option as to where to go and geta sea bath.
Also present was Dante` Ashton, a grade 6 student at the Colonarie Government School who saw his friend Kishon struggling for his life and sought out Gabriel Smart to save his friend\u2019s life. He explained seeing his friend falling from the rock whilst they were fishing on the rock at the San Souci beach.
