Election in the Air
There was a time when mornings in St. Vincent and the Grenadines began with the soothing aroma of cocoa tea or bush tea. Today, our mornings are filled instead with the noise of radio talk shows and social media chatter. The discussions are not about progress or policies, but about who had the biggest crowd, who got a massage, who combed whose hair, and who didn\u2019t get a hug.
The latest rally, packed with entertainers and spectacle, was nothing more than a performance. Its so-called highlight \u2014 the King JahJah speech \u2014 offered little substance, sinking instead into personal attacks on hardworking citizens.
Meanwhile, the leader who speaks these words sits high in a mansion on a hill, looking down on the very people who built the nation, and we continue to applaud. We applaud elaborate lies, fairytales spun to keep us dreaming of happy endings that never come.
For over 24 years, the same rhetoric has echoed \u2014 promises unfulfilled, truths untold, and a strategy that thrives on keeping people poor to maintain control. It\u2019s straight from the old colonial playbook: keep them dependent, keep them silent.
I watched in disbelief as he asked college students to raise their hands, and only four did. Then, with chilling calm, he told the \u201cSilver Fox\u201d to shut up \u2014 a glimpse, perhaps, of how power speaks when it feels untouchable.
Our nation deserves better. We need to bring back the St. Vincent and the Grenadines that Joseph Chatoyer fought for \u2014 a nation of dignity, courage, and independence. Right now, we are living in what feels like the United States of Amnesia.
The ULP\u2019s long rule has left deep scars. Our country is in need of healing \u2014 and that healing begins when the bell rings. Enough is enough. If the ULP is returned to power, this nation may suffer a political and social stroke from which it may not recover.
Even I laughed at parts of the spectacle \u2014 until one moment made me stop and think twice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
