Senator Shevern John, the New Democratic Party\u2019s (NDP) candidate for North Windward, has pledged a new era of progress and opportunity for the constituency \u2014 promising major improvements in sports, tourism, infrastructure, health care, and community development under an NDP administration.
Speaking before a large crowd at the London Playing Field on Saturday night, John, a teacher by profession, said the NDP\u2019s plan for the people of North Windward is one \u201cwith vision and heart.\u201d

Youth and Sports at the Forefront
John outlined a bold agenda for youth and sports development, promising to build a playing field at Langley Park and to establish one hard court in every village\u2014each equipped with floodlights and changing-room facilities.
She also committed to upgrading existing playing fields across the constituency and constructing a multi-complex sporting facility to train athletes locally. The initiative, she said, will not only nurture homegrown talent but also promote safer community spaces.
Community-Based Tourism Development
John\u2019s vision for tourism includes transforming Fancy, Owia, and Sandy Bay into eco-tourism and cultural destinations. Plans include upgraded amenities, visitor guidance systems, and facilities to support the growing domestic tourism market.
She proposed a community-based tourism model that celebrates local crafts, cuisine, and Garifuna heritage. The Joseph Chatoyer National Park would be developed as a central heritage site, and the historic Fancy White House would be restored \u201cto work for the people.\u201d
John also announced plans to host an annual Garifuna Festival in North Windward to strengthen cultural ties and celebrate indigenous identity.
Infrastructure and Road Safety
Addressing infrastructure needs, John pledged to install road safety barriers in Rock Gutter, Old Sandy Bay, and other high-risk areas. She also vowed to improve public lighting along the stretch from Orange Hill to Fancy, describing it as \u201cdangerously dark at night.\u201d
Routine road and drain maintenance, she said, would become a top priority under an NDP government to ensure safer, more reliable travel for residents.
Health and Social Care Improvements
John highlighted plans to strengthen health care for the elderly and vulnerable, including weekly home visits by doctors in Langley Park and Dickson, a new clinic in Dickson, and an ambulance stationed beyond Rabacca to reduce emergency response times.
An NDP government, she pledged, would also eliminate hospital fees for elderly citizens.
Safety, Policing, and Access
To improve security, John proposed dedicated police transport for the Owia and Sandy Bay police stations, ensuring faster response to crimes and emergencies. She also promised to install ATMs north of the Rabacca River, expanding banking access for rural residents.
Boosting Economic Growth and Industry
In support of local industry, John announced that an NDP government would remove VAT on Rabacca sand and aggregates, reducing construction costs and encouraging homebuilding.
She also promised to revitalize the Owia Fisheries Complex and reactivate the Cassava Factory in Orange Hill, initiatives aimed at boosting agricultural production and creating sustainable jobs.
