Kingstown,\u00a0Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, April\u00a024, 2026\u00a0\u2014 \u00a0Grade\u00a0Four students of the Dubois Government School joined more than 300 children across nine Caribbean islands who stepped out of the classroom and into nature\u00a0this Earth Day, as the Sandals Foundation rolled out a\u00a0Caribbean-wide\u00a0guided mindfulness\u00a0programme\u00a0designed to build environmental awareness and support\u00a0mental\u00a0well-being.\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n
The tour, which took place at the Prospect\u00a0Brighton\u00a0Mangrove Conservation Park,\u00a0enabled\u00a0students\u00a0to connect\u00a0directly with\u00a0the\u00a0island\u2019s\u00a0ecosystems\u00a0engaging\u00a0in breathing exercises, nature walks, sensory observation and discussions.\u00a0The\u00a0programmealso\u00a0sought to reinforce\u00a0the role of\u00a0nature in healing the body and mind\u00a0as well as explore the\u00a0everyday actions\u00a0young people can take to\u00a0protect\u00a0their\u00a0natural resources.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n
\u201cBy combining mindfulness with environmental education,\u00a0we wanted to\u00a0encourage students to slow down,\u00a0be present,\u00a0reflect, and\u00a0appreciate the beauty of nature which is around them,\u201d says Heidi Clarke, Executive Director at the Sandals Foundation. \u201cWe also wanted to share with students that\u00a0sense of responsibility\u00a0and power\u00a0they each have to protect their community\u2019s natural resources and the services those resourcessupport.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n
The lesson in nature was a complementary addition to activities on resort which mobilized the engagement of guests and\u00a0the dive team in an underwater cleanup\u00a0\u2013 removing pounds of\u00a0debris\u00a0including\u00a0plastic to\u00a0tyres\u00a0from the ocean floor.\u00a0Guests also enjoyed a specially curated\u00a0fashion show featuring clothing made from recyclable items, as well as a\u00a0nature-inspired\u00a0food and beverage display\u00a0\u2013 all part of efforts to raise environmental awareness.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

The team of volunteers, led by Public Relations Manager Aviar Charles, echoed the importance of activities which seek to protect the ecosystem and, by extension, human lives.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Days like Earth Day give us a moment to pause and reflect on the undeniable relationship we have as humans on its wellbeing. More than 300 students\u00a0across Antigua, Barbados, St. Vincent\u00a0& the Grenadines, Grenada, The Bahamas, Turks and CaicosIslands,\u00a0Curacao,\u00a0and Jamaica\u00a0visited\u00a0national\u00a0parks, mangroveforests,\u00a0Beaches Resorts gardens,\u00a0and\u00a0or\u00a0national\u00a0conservation areas,\u00a0fostering a disengagement from digital devices\u00a0and\u00a0allowing\u00a0time\u00a0to\u00a0decompress and connect\u00a0with nature.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n
The activity, which\u00a0fosters\u00a0positive mental wellbeing\u00a0forms\u00a0part of the\u00a0wider\u00a0range of conservation work\u00a0of the Sandals Foundation which has to date\u00a0engaged\u00a0177,526\u00a0people in environmental education,\u00a0planted\u00a028,117\u00a0trees,\u00a0outplanted38,156\u00a0corals,\u00a0invested in\u00a0programmes\u00a0that\u00a0monitor\u00a0the safe hatch of\u00a0221,392\u00a0sea turtles,\u00a0and\u00a0supported\u00a023 marine and terrestrial protected areas.<\/p>\r\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
