Kingstown, St Vincent and the Grenadines – Authorities have condemned a violent assault on a public official and her mother, describing the incident as unacceptable and deeply troubling.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Deputy Prime Minister St Clair Leacock said the attack on Nadia Slater was not reflective of the society Vincentians expect.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cNo one really should be subjected to that kind of treatment,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The assault took place at Slater\u2019s home in Clare Valley after she responded to a knock at the door and recognised the individual, who then attacked her.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Leacock said the assailant used both hands and objects, including a gas cylinder, to inflict injuries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cA rational person doesn\u2019t behave that way,\u201d he said. Hestressed that the incident had no political motive and warned against speculation. \u201cIt doesn\u2019t even come close to that,\u201d he said. \u201cSo just stop it.\u201d The minister added that citizens must feel safe in their homes and communities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cPeople need to know that they can walk the streets and rest peacefully in the quiet of their homes,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
