{"id":45451,"date":"2026-05-06T12:23:55","date_gmt":"2026-05-06T16:23:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/annsvg.com\/index.php\/2026\/05\/06\/grant-connell-accuses-police-commissioner-of-failing-officers-and-public\/"},"modified":"2026-05-06T12:23:55","modified_gmt":"2026-05-06T16:23:55","slug":"grant-connell-accuses-police-commissioner-of-failing-officers-and-public","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/annsvg.com\/index.php\/2026\/05\/06\/grant-connell-accuses-police-commissioner-of-failing-officers-and-public\/","title":{"rendered":"Grant Connell accuses police commissioner of failing officers and public"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"MsoNormal wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Kingstown St. Vincent May 06, 2026-<\/strong> Defence attorney Grant Connell has accused Police Commissioner Enville Williams of failing to provide officers with basic crime fighting resources, claiming some police personnel are operating in \u201cinhumane\u201d conditions while key forensic and surveillance systems remain ineffective.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"MsoNormal wp-block-paragraph\">Speaking on the Hot 97 morning programme, Connell launched a criticism of the leadership of the Royal St Vincent and the Grenadines Police Force, describing Williams as \u201cthe worst individual that ever sat down in the chair\u201d of Commissioner.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"MsoNormal wp-block-paragraph\">The comments followed a recent police press release which accused Connell of warning members of the public to be cautious about which officers they hand illegal firearms to, allegedly suggesting the weapons could return to criminal circulation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"MsoNormal wp-block-paragraph\">Connell denied making the remarks in court and produced what he said was a US$5 court transcript during the broadcast to support his claim.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"MsoNormal wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cA true leader would have gotten the transcript first before speaking publicly,\u201d Connell said, accusing the Commissioner of speaking \u201cout of turn\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"MsoNormal wp-block-paragraph\">But the attorney went beyond the dispute over the alleged comments, painting a broader picture of what he described as severe institutional deficiencies affecting criminal investigations and frontline policing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"MsoNormal wp-block-paragraph\">According to Connell, officers frequently attend crime scenes without blood collection or fingerprinting kits, while a major fingerprinting machine at the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) is allegedly non-functional because its software licence has not been renewed. He also claimed that several public surveillance cameras are not working, including cameras on Bay Street, and said functioning systems only retain footage for 90 days due to limited storage capacity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"MsoNormal wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThe country is getting a false sense of security,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"MsoNormal wp-block-paragraph\">Connell reserved particular concern for the Sexual Offences Unit, which he said lacks transport and essential rape kits needed to investigate cases involving vulnerable victims.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"MsoNormal wp-block-paragraph\">In one example shared during the programme, Connell said a man accused of rape voluntarily submitted a blood sample for DNA testing in an effort to clear his name, only for police to later admit in court that the sample had never been tested.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"MsoNormal wp-block-paragraph\">The Royal St Vincent and the Grenadines Police Force has not publicly responded to the latest allegations made during the broadcast by the attorney   <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Kingstown St. Vincent May 06, 2026- Defence attorney Grant Connell has accused Police Commissioner Enville Williams of failing to provide officers with basic crime fighting resources, claiming some police personnel are operating in \u201cinhumane\u201d conditions while key forensic and surveillance systems remain ineffective.
