{"id":45537,"date":"2026-05-11T08:52:19","date_gmt":"2026-05-11T12:52:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/annsvg.com\/?p=45537"},"modified":"2026-05-11T08:52:19","modified_gmt":"2026-05-11T12:52:19","slug":"ghs-alumna-urges-students-to-see-setbacks-as-stepping-stones","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/annsvg.com\/index.php\/2026\/05\/11\/ghs-alumna-urges-students-to-see-setbacks-as-stepping-stones\/","title":{"rendered":"GHS Alumna Urges Students to See Setbacks as Stepping Stones"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Kingstown, St Vincent 11 May 2026<\/strong> &#8211; A former student of the Girls\u2019 High School has told current pupils that academic setbacks should not define their futures, drawing on her own experience of repeating secondary school before building a career in agriculture, consultancy and entrepreneurship.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Delivering the school\u2019s 115th Anniversary Lecture under the theme \u201cHonouring Our Legacy, Shaping the Future\u201d , featured speaker Tasheka Haynes\u2011Bobb said her journey to success began after disappointment in her CXC examinations.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0\u201cWhen I received my CXC results, they were not stellar,\u201d she admitted, recalling how she repeated Form Five at Marriaqua Secondary School, where she discovered agricultural science a subject that ultimately shaped her career.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Haynes\u2011Bobb, now a sustainable development consultant and agro\u2011processor, urged students not to allow failure, rejection or delays to discourage them.\u00a0\u00a0 \u201cYour setbacks do not disqualify you. They prepare you,\u201d she told the audience.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The anniversary programme highlighted the school\u2019s expanding focus beyond traditional academics into leadership development, entrepreneurship, agriculture, technology and skills training aimed at preparing students for a changing global economy.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Closing her lecture, Haynes\u2011Bobb reminded students that challenges can be transformative:<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0\u201cSometimes the greatest turning points in our lives come disguised as endings. Your toughest moments become the very things that build your character, your strength, wisdom, resilience, and faith.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0Founded in 1911, Girls\u2019 High School is one of St Vincent and the Grenadines\u2019 oldest and most prominent institutions for girls.
