The Unity Labour Party (ULP) successfully convened its first National Council Meeting yesterday , Tuesday, May 19th , at Russell\u2019s Auditorium following the general elections held on November 27th 2025. As the highest decision making body of the party, the meeting demonstrated immense grassroots strength, drawing 617 delegates representing every constituency across the nation inside the hall, alongside an enthusiastic crowd of 150 supporters gathered outside. The session was chaired by Party Chairman Edwin Snagg, and the evening featured impactful remarks from Comrades Ashelle Morgan, Carlos James, and Dr. Orando Brewster, paving the way for the keynote address and Political Leader\u2019s report by Dr. Ralph Gonsalves.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dr. Gonsalves, who served 24 years as Prime Minister and currently serves as the Leader of the Opposition, delivered a powerful message of resilience and reconciliation to the party\u2019s rank-and-file members. He urged the party faithful to turn setback into an advance and issued a strong call for grace and inclusivity, stating that members must forgive persons who exercised their democratic right and voted for the NDP but are now aggrieved with the current government. He emphasized that ULP members and supporters must do their best to actively work together with these individuals for the betterment of St. Vincent and the Grenadines, aiming squarely at correcting the mistakes made in the last election.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Addressing the challenges facing citizens under the current administration, Dr. Gonsalves highlighted the active role of the People\u2019s Defence Committee (PDC). Spearheaded by the party to deal with complaints made against the government by citizens across St. Vincent and the Grenadines, the PDC is currently providing vital assistance to individuals unable to continue paying for lands offered by the government, as well as those victimized by the government after having worked for years in various departments only to be fired unfairly. Dr. Gonsalves announced that official complaint forms are now available at the Party Headquarters for anyone to fill out, and noted that the party has assembled a dedicated team, ranging from lawyers to trade unionists, who stand ready to assist.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The National Council concluded with a major announcement regarding the party’s future trajectory. A special meeting will be held in June to officially determine the date for the upcoming ULP National Convention, which is also slated to take place later this year. The overwhelming turnout and strategic directives from yesterday’s meeting signal a re-energized Unity Labour Party, deeply committed to defending the people of St. Vincentand the Grenadines and organizing for the future.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
