(Loop Barbados) Barbados has imported its newest cases via a repatriation flight and the Acting Chief Medical Officer is calling on citizens not to relax their safety precautions.

With Prime Minister Mia Mottley cautioning citizens that the ease in restrictions could be halted and reverted as necessary to protect everyone, today, Dr Kenneth George is also cautioning Barbadians and others on island.

Acting CMO Dr George reminded the public that while Barbados had not recorded a new case for several weeks prior to yesterday, the COVID-19 pandemic is far from over and residents need to continue to act responsibly.

“As we ready ourselves for the reopening of our airport to international flights, we know there is a possibility that we will have new cases. It is therefore important that people continue to take personal responsibility for protecting themselves by practising proper hand hygiene, physical distancing and wearing masks.

“When we do these things, we protect not only ourselves but also the most vulnerable among us, with whom we may come into contact,” he asserted.

Barbados is set to reopen to commercial flights from July 12.
