President Trump on Tuesday called for “peace and calm” in the wake of the attack on the Capitol — as he also predicted an effort to oust him under the 25th Amendment would come back to “haunt” President-elect Joe Biden.

“It’s time for peace and calm. Respect for law enforcement… is the foundation of the MAGA agenda,” Trump said during a visit to Alamo, Texas.

Trump referred to his supporters who participated in the break-in as “a mob.”

“Millions of our citizens watched on Wednesday as a mob stormed the Capitol and trashed the halls of government. As I have consistently said throughout my administration, we believe in respecting America’s history and traditions, not tearing them down. We believe in the rule of law, not in violence or rioting,” he said.

Trump warned on Tuesday morning while leaving the White House that his likely impeachment by the House “is causing tremendous anger” and “causing tremendous danger to our country.”

He made similar remarks in Texas and repeated his past jeers that Democrats are likely to wind up removing Biden, 78, from office under the 25th Amendment. He also slammed the Big Tech crackdown.

“Free speech is under assault like never before. The 25th Amendment is of zero risk to me, but will come back to haunt Joe Biden and the Biden administration. As the expression goes, be careful what you wish for,” Trump said.

“The impeachment hoax is a continuation of the greatest and most vicious witch hunt in the history of our country, and is causing tremendous anger and division and pain — far greater than most people will ever understand, which is very dangerous for the USA, especially at this very tender time.”

Four Trump supporters and one police officer died during the riot, which followed a speech near the White House in which Trump said the election was stolen and that the crowd must “fight like hell” to persuade legislators to reverse Biden’s victory.

House Democrats will vote Tuesday night to urge Vice President Mike Pence to organize a revolt among cabinet members and oust Trump under the 25th Amendment. Pence is not expected to do so. Democrats also plan a Wednesday vote on impeachment, which will almost surely pass though a Senate trial may not occur until after Trump leaves office.

Trump called for violence to end during the rampage, but he was banned temporarily from Twitter for also appearing to glorify the break-in when he wrote “.. these are the things and events that happen when a sacred landslide election victory is so unceremoniously & viciously stripped away.”
