    New Executive Elected for Union Island District Disaster Committee

    A new executive team has been elected to serve on the Union Island District Disaster Committee. The election took place at the Ashton Learning Resource Centre as the concluding event of the Multi-Hazard Public Awareness Week of Activities, initiated on June 3rd by the National Emergency Management Organisation (NEMO), in partnership with the Caribbean Disaster Emergency Management Agency Coordinating Unit and the BRICS 11th EDF initiative.The newly elected executive members are:Chairperson: Mrs. Monifa Chambers WebbVice Chairperson: Mr. Abdon WhyteSecretary: Ms. Rasheda BaptisteAssistant Secretary: Ms. Shevorn ScrubbTreasurer: Mrs. Sherma Selby-AdamsAssistant Treasurer: Ms. Wanda StewartPublic Relations Officer (P.R.O): Mrs. Stephanie BrowneAdditional committee members include:Mr. Stanford CoyMr. Anthony AlexanderMUFFThe District Disaster Committee, a volunteer body, plays a crucial role in disaster risk reduction at the community level. Their responsibilities include preparing communities for potential hazards, enhancing their capacity for prompt response to save lives and protect property, and coordinating assistance activities before, during, and after disasters.The committee’s efforts are conducted in close collaboration with NEMO, ensuring effective management of local emergencies prior to national interventions.
