The Radiology Department in St. Vincent and the Grenadines has made significant advancements in recent years, increasing access to imaging services and implementing cutting-edge technology to improve patient care.
That’s according to Chief Radiographer Chevonne Stewart. Stewart, who was speaking on radio on Sunday, has confirmed that radiology services in Kingstown are now available around the clock, eliminating delays previously caused by the on-call system.
The expansion has also brought ultrasound services to multiple health centres, including Levi Lathan Health Centre, the Buccament Polyclinic, and the Bequia Hospital. Efforts are ongoing to further enhance diagnostic services in the Southern Grenadines.
Stewart also mentioned that the transition to fully digital radiography marks a major milestone, ensuring faster processing times, higher-quality images, and improved patient outcomes. The Chief Radiographer added that safety remains a priority, with protective measures in place for patients and staff, including radiation monitoring and shielding protocols.
The public can now access the following services across various locations:
• X-rays and Ultrasounds: Available at multiple health centers
• Mammography and CT Scans: Available at the main hospital
• MRI: Offered at Modern Medical Diagnostic Center
• Future Expansion: Plans to introduce fixed X-ray units in Bequia and X-ray and Ultrasound services to be introduced at the Celina Clouden Hospital in Union Island
As part of efforts to maintain high-quality service, the department is also addressing staffing challenges in sonography and is actively recruiting specialized professionals to fill this gap. –End–
