A major milestone for Vincentian theatre is set to unfold later this year as acclaimed local production “Number Seven” prepares for an historic Off-Broadway presentation in New York City.
Ask Enterprise Limited announced this week that the production, written and directed by veteran playwright Kevin Roderiques, will first be staged locally at the Peace Memorial Hall on May 30 and 31, 2026, before heading to New York on October 24, 2026 during St. Vincent and the Grenadines’ 47th Independence celebrations.
The production is being described as a landmark moment for Vincentian theatre, as it will feature a full-length Vincentian play written and directed by a Vincentian and performed by an all-Vincentian cast on an Off-Broadway stage.
“Number Seven” is regarded as one of Roderiques’ most successful and memorable works. The suspense-driven production has earned acclaim over the years for its compelling storyline and its exploration of crime and social issues within upper-class society.
The play has previously been showcased not only in St. Vincent and the Grenadines, but also regionally in Grenada and St. Lucia.
Roderiques, who has spent decades shaping Vincentian theatre through his work with the Agape Performing Arts Theatre, described the upcoming New York presentation as the fulfilment of a long-held dream.
He said the production represents “the very best” of Vincentian creativity and storytelling and noted that the project is about more than theatre alone.
According to organisers, the local productions in Kingstown will also serve a broader purpose, helping to fund the New York delegation and support the Agent Mentorship Programme, a free after-school initiative for boys aged 8 to 12 in St. Vincent and the Grenadines.
The programme uses theatre arts to help build discipline, confidence and creative thinking among young participants.
A cast of 12 Vincentian actors is expected to perform in both the local and Off-Broadway productions, serving as cultural ambassadors for the country.
Organisers said the project also aims to strengthen connections with Vincentians in the diaspora while showcasing the country’s cultural talent on an international stage.
Ask Enterprise Limited is currently seeking corporate and community partners to support the initiative through sponsorship opportunities.
Tickets for the local staging are available through the production team and at designated box office locations, including Lady J, The Cell and the Peace Memorial Hall.
The production team said the historic presentation represents an opportunity to demonstrate that Vincentian stories and talent can compete and resonate on the international stage.
