The St. Vincent and the Grenadines Basketball Federation (SVGBF) has officially begun the process of selecting its Senior Men’s National Basketball Team ahead of the Caribbean FIBA AmeriCup 2029 Pre-Qualifying Tournament scheduled for next month in Guyana.

The Federation announced that Team SVG will compete in the regional tournament from July 6 to 13, 2026 in Georgetown, where ten Caribbean nations will battle for two qualifying spots in the next stage of the FIBA AmeriCup pathway.

St. Vincent and the Grenadines will face competition from Antigua and Barbuda, Barbados, Bermuda, Cayman Islands, Dominica, Grenada, Guyana, Haiti, and the Turks and Caicos Islands.

According to the Federation, the national squad is expected to feature a strong contingent of overseas-based Vincentian players currently competing at collegiate, professional, and semi-professional levels around the world.

Among those under consideration is Darreo Glasgow of Union Island, who currently represents the British Army Warriors, and Opong Bramble of Kingstown and FitzHughes, who is playing professionally in Spain for Buenas Arenas Albacete Basket.

Also included in the national selection pool are Brendan Smart of South Rivers, who plays for Taiwan Beer in Taipei; Shad Thomas of Union Island, a player at Azusa Pacific University in Los Angeles; and Hosea De Freitas of Dorsetshire Hill, who currently plays for Florida Flight and the Orlando Vincy All-Stars in the United States.

The overseas-based group also features Phillip Lawrence Ricks of Troumaca, a former professional player in Spain who now serves as Assistant Coach at St. Joseph’s University in Philadelphia; Tyler Fraser of Cane Hall, who plays for the University at Albany in New York; and veteran national representatives Chrisford Telesford and Sean Baptiste, both of whom are now involved in coaching basketball in the United States.

The Federation noted that local player evaluations have been underway for the past three weeks at Calliaqua and New Montrose as coaches work to identify the best domestic talent to complement the overseas-based contingent.

Officials say the final roster and delegation list will be announced in the coming weeks, including the local players who will join the national squad for the tournament.

The upcoming competition represents an important opportunity for St. Vincent and the Grenadines to strengthen its standing within regional basketball and advance toward qualification for the FIBA AmeriCup 2029.

The Federation expressed confidence that the blend of international experience, professional talent, and emerging local players will give Team SVG a strong platform as it prepares for competition in Georgetown.
