Rodney Small continues to stand out as he continues to make a name for himself in St Vincent and throughout the region. Rodney began playing pan at age 7 and has been in love with the instrument since.
in 2011, Rodney held his first production called “Steel Expressions” – he explained the reason for his production as being one to aid his finances towards his education. These finances were geared towards finishing his final exams at Edna Manley College of Visual and Performing Arts in Jamaica.
He also added that persons kept asking him what he studied at school and this was a way for him to express what he learned without actually speaking. He chose to speak through his productions and by playing pan.
He further went on to state that although his first year was poorly attended and was very discouraging. He said that other musicians advised him to continue. Which he did.
Seven years later, in 2018, he will host Steel Expressions under the theme “Epiphany”. Rodney stated that this year’s production will have a different set up than what is usually held. He added that technology is utilized and will be the basis for this year’s production.
“There will be a lot of effects, the production work, the entire concept of the show has a lot to deal with manifesting and feeling good about yourself” Rodney stated.
Rodney also would like to encourage younger persons to do what they love and are passionate about.
He also encourages the Vincentian populace to continue supporting local products and services and “fly the flag high”.
