Kingstown, St. Vincent – World Pediatric Project (WPP) WPP remains committed to their mission of building a brighter future for our children locally, regionally and internationally. The lives of families continue to be enhanced and given hope here as WPP work with children with a range of medical challenges to ensure no child is left behind. WPP recently hosted its two latest Missions namely neurosurgery and scoliosis.

The Neurosurgery team held in May was headed by Dr. Tye and saw approximately 59 children in clinic, 7 patients were scheduled for surgery and 1 patient was referred to the US. This mission facilitated 6 patients from St. Lucia, 11 from Grenada, 2 from Dominica, 2 from, St. Kitts and 38 from SVG. The mission looked at cases concerned with the prevention, diagnosis, surgical treatment, and rehabilitation of disorders which affect any portion of the nervous system including the brain, spinal cord, peripheral nerves, and extra-cranial cerebrovascular system.

The Scoliosis team held in June was led by Dr. Hwang saw a total of 59 children, 12 of which were regional families with the remaining 48 from SVG, 11 surgeries were conducted and 5 MRI requested.

WPP has been working in SVG since 2002 providing surgical and diagnostic services through visiting pediatric teams and children getting services in the US. WPP continues to expand in the work that they are doing and is extremely grateful for the growing support and assistance from donors and sponsors, since 2002 they have provided services to over 3,000 SVG children valued at US$24million; 700 of these were at the Milton Cato Memorial Hospital and 169 travelled to the US for surgery.

WPP is committed to their mission in building a brighter further for our children particularly with the Every Child Counts Campaign. The work of the WPP and its impact can be followed at www.worldpediatricproject.org.
