On Sunday November 9th, 2019, executive members of the UWI Open Campus Guild of Students in collaboration with Rotaract Club of Kingstown, embarked on a mission to feed some of the homeless persons in capital city Kingstown.
The project was co-ordinated by both entities as they seek to increase the reach of their volunteerism through synergy.
Jovarni Browne, Deputy Chapter Chair of the Guild of Students indicated that the Guild saw an opportunity to increase its social impact by giving back to persons in need. He further stated that this is just of one of the initiatives planned by the UWI OC Guild, as there are plans to launch a “Canned Food Drive” in the upcoming weeks, where food items and household supplies would be collected and redistributed to the less fortunate.
Browne appealed to all Vincentians, both local and in the diaspora to contribute to this worthy cause. He expressed his gratitude on behalf of the Guild to all the parties that made donations, especially to Police Canteen and to all the persons who volunteered their time and energy and made the event a success.
As the season of giving approaches, those on the receiving end of the Guild and Rotaract club’s generosity were indeed grateful. Not only was the food itself welcomed, but also the kindness that goes hand in hand with helping your fellow man.
