Kingstown, St. Vincent and the Grenadines: On Saturday 7 December 2019, the people of North Central Windward (NCW) unanimously nominated Mr. Cheiftain Neptune to represent them as their candidate in the upcoming general elections.
Mr. Cheiftain Neptune, who recently graduated from UWI St. Augustine Campus, Trinidad with a BSc in Criminology and Criminal Justice with minors in Political Science and International Relations is a resident of Bottom Hill, Byrea.
Mr. Kenroy Johnson was the NDP’s candidate/caretaker in that constituency for the last 10 years. After contesting the 2010 general elections, Johnson a Headteacher, along with two other teachers, Mr. Addison ‘Bash’ Thomas and Mr. Elvis Daniel were not reinstated in direct convention to a Collective Agreement between the ruling ULP and the SVG Teachers Union to that effect.
Johnson who was present and chaired the meeting, noted that “it was heartwarming and inspiring to see a young professional coming forward and offering himself for public service under the NDP’s banner, despite the culture of victimization and fear that pervade the land.” He offered his full support to Mr. Neptune saying, “I am passing the baton to a young, bright and courageous man. He has my blessing and support.”
In his acceptance remarks Mr. Neptune said, that he was honoured and happy to have been nominated and was overwhelmed at the support from the people of NCW. He expressed his thanks for the encouragement and support from Mr. Johnson, his family, friends and the people of NCW especially of Byrea. He noted that, “from the moment I expressed my intention to Johnson, he was fully behind me, encouraging me as a young person. He took me to meetings and introduced me to his committee.” He further expressed his commitment to work for all the people of NCW, noting that, “our country is too divided. It is time for a change, a change where all must have equal opportunity for development and growth.”
