KINGSTOWN, ST. VINCENT AND THE GRENADINES; THURSDAY DECEMBER 12, 2019 – Highlighting the second day of action in the 2019 WINLOTT / WICBC Under-15 Cricket Championships was this year’s first hundred, and three half-centuries as both Grenada and Saint Lucia registered victories.
At the Cumberland Playing Field, Grenada totalled 254 for 8 in their 50 overs, the foundation of which was 122 by Rion Mitchell, which included ten 4s and three 6s. Justin John chipped in with 25, and 22 was the contribution of Rickell Sylvester.
Wickets fell at 1 – 43, 2 – 110, 3 – 111, 4 – 200, 5 – 236, 6 – 237, 7 – 239, and 8 – 239, with extras contributing 45.
Bowling for Dominica, Darin Toussaint finished with 2 for 37, Ammiel Gilbert 2 for 51, Jerlani Joseph 1 for 23, and Jahson Vidal 1 for 29.
In response, Dominica, led by captain Stephan Pascal with 79, Jerlani Joseph 29, and Darin Toussaint 21, reached 191 for 9 of which 28 were extras, to give Grenada
Grenada Under-15s victory by 39 runs on the D/L System.
Wickets fell at 1 – 73, 2 – 128, 3 – 129, 4 – 137, 5 – 139, 6 – 148, 7 – 175, 8 – 191, and 9 – 191, as Kirt Murray grabbed 4 for 25, Kani Lewis 2 for 27, Clevon Bartholomew 1 for 15, and Deshawn Juerakhan 1 for 36 to give the Grenadians their second consecutive victory.
Over at the Park Hill Playing Field, Saint Lucian held their nerve in fading light, to defeat St. Vincent and the Grenadines by 11 runs after rain forced the 2nd innings to be reduced to 43 overs.
Batting first, Saint Lucia made 179 for 9 off their 50 overs, with extras contributing 38. Skipper Khan Elcock top-scored with 58, Kahlil St. Hill made 23, and Jordan Emmanuel remained 17 not out.
Saint Lucia lost wickets at 1 – 21, 2 – 62, 3 – 69, 4 – 121, 5 – 124, 6 – 129, 7 – 139, 8 – 164, and 9 – 179.
The wickets were taken by 10-year-old Zack Thomas with 3 for 45, Reynolly Hillocks 2 for 23, Elran Glasgow 1 for 25, and Alston Bobb 1 for 34.
In response St. Vincent and the Grenadines, despite a fighting 68 by Kodi Grant, was only able to reach 164 for 9, with extras making a huge contribution of 44. In support Elran Glasgow made 12, and Kevin Shallow 10.
Taking the wickets for Saint Lucia were Isiah Jones 3 for 32, Tori Hippolyte 2 for 27, Darwin 1 for 05, Jordan Emmanuel and Khan Elcock each took 1 for 12, Jayxan Hustin 1 for 21.
The 11-run victory gave Saint Lucia its first victory in two games, while St. Vincent and the Grenadines has lost both of their opening games.
Grenada won both of their games to date, while Dominica has won one of two matches.
Friday December 13, 2019 is a rest day and on Saturday December 14, 2019, St. Vincent and the Grenadines take on Grenada at the Park Hill Playing Field, while at the Cumberland Playing Field, Dominica takes on Saint Lucia; both games starting at 9:15 a.m.
