On Thursday July 30, 2020, St. Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG) joined the global community in commemorating the United Nations World Day against Trafficking in Persons.
In recognizing the day, Prime Minister of St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Dr. Hon. Ralph Gonsalves – who is also Chairman of the National Taskforce against Trafficking in Persons, delivered a joint radio address and unveiled the official logo of the Anti-trafficking in Persons Unit jointly with Commissioner of Police, Mr. Colin John.
In his address, the Hon. Prime Minister highlighted the plight of victims of human trafficking; the commendable efforts by all stakeholders to combat human trafficking and; the work that SVG has done and continues to do to eliminate human trafficking.
In addition, from July 28 – 30, 2020, the Anti-trafficking in Persons Unit convened a two (2) day symposium with stakeholders from the public sector, private sector and non-governmental organizations to review the National Action Plan and the Memorandum of Understanding to Combat Human Trafficking at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Conference Room.
The theme for the UN World Day against TIP 2020 is “COMMITTED TO THE CAUSE- WORKING ON THE FRONTLINE TO END HUMAN TRAFFICKING”.
