TTPS PR – Nine persons, including a soldier, were arrested earlier today as police seized millions of dollars at a house at Kathleen Warner Drive, Phase I, La Horquetta.
There were reports that several persons had assembled, in breach of the Public Health Ordinance Regulations, waiting to collect large sums of money from a Pyramid Scheme.
Commissioner of Police, Gary Griffith, directed the Special Operations Response Team (SORT) to mount an exercise in the La Horquetta area. But on seeing the police, the people dispersed.
A search warrant was executed at a house at Kathleen Warner Drive, Phase One, La Horquetta, where police arrested nine persons for being in possession of cash in excess of the prescribed sum. A large quantity of money was seized and taken away. The Finance Intelligence Branch of the TTPS, has been brought into the investigation. Also involved in the exercise were officers of the Northern Division.
Enquiries are continuing.
Commissioner Griffith has advised that when the Police find that amount of money, it will be seized as evidence. He warned the public when the police receive a tip-off, they will find the location and seize the money. That would mean that people would lose their hard-earned money they invested in these Schemes.
