St Vincent and the Grenadines Senior Men’s Football Team- Vincy Heat, will know their opponents for the CONCACAF Gold Cup Qualifiers, by next Monday, September 28.
The draw takes place in Miami, Florida, USA, from 8pm Eastern Time.
The revamped format was announced earlier this month, after the previous format was scrapped because of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.
The previous format had pitted St Vincent and the Grenadines against Guadeloupe in a home and away tie last March. The winner would have met Haiti last June.
Under the new set-up, there will be an elimination process involving the twelve teams in the Qualifying Phase.
The qualifiers will take place at a central point in the USA, 2nd to 6th July, 2021.
For Monday’s draw, St Vincent and the Grenadines is placed in Pot B, along with French Guiana, Guyana, Bahamas, Guyana ad Montserrat.
Haiti, Guatemala, Trinidad and Tobago, Guadeloupe, Cuba and Bermuda are the pre- seeded teams.
The twelve teams will be paired, with the six first round winners advancing to Round Two. The three winners of Round Two will gain berths to the Group Stage, where they will join the thirteen teams that have made qualified for that phase.
Already qualified for the prestigious Gold Cup are Canada, Costa Rica, Curacao, El Salvador, Grenada, Honduras, Jamaica, Martinique, Mexico, Panama, Suriname, the United States of America and guest team- Qatar.
St Vincent and the Grenadines was forced to go the Qualification route after finishing second to Suriname in the Nations League, which took place from September to November, last year.
The Vincentians were in pole position, after gaining an away win and a home draw against Suriname, and home wins versus Dominica and Nicaragua.
However, they faltered in their last match, going under Dominica 1-0.
Apart from a change in the Qualifying Round, CONCACAF has also made alterations to the actual competition, with the teams competing against each other from opposite bracket. This will take place from the Quarter- Final stage.
