Barbados Today – A man who died after a car in which he was travelling was washed away by floodwaters in St. Lucy this afternoon has been identified as 21-year-old Yohance Johnson.

Shortly before 2 p.m. today, police received call that a vehicle had been washed away in a gully at Lamberts, St Lucy.

The report stated that a man, who was in the vehicle, had been injured and was taken to Sandy Crest Medical Facility by private transportation.
Police from the District E Station as well as two fire tenders from the Barbados Fire Service responded to the scene.

It was confirmed that a motor car was in a ravine having been swept off the roadway.

It was later learnt that Johnson, who was a passenger in the vehicle, was missing.
Emergency personnel conducted a joint search and rescue operation.

At 4 p.m. personnel discovered Johnson’s body about one mile along the water course, away from where the vehicle was washed away, in the area of Date Tree Hill, St Peter.
    Investigations are ongoing.
