A 19-year-old woman who said she was falsely accused in a news report of spreading HIV/AIDS is thinking of taking legal action.

On March 23, 2021, an article was published online on Cliplet News with the headline “Vincentian Woman Knowingly Spread HIV Aids to men”.

The photograph of the woman, 19-year-old Chadonya Thomas of Victoria Village, was also used.

ANN contacted Thomas for an interview about the issue and she produced a copy of a rapid HIV test which was dated March 24, 2021, showing she is HIV negative.

Thomas said she is considering legal action.

” I want to make it reach very far where I can charge the person for such false news about me on the internet”, the young lady said.

Thomas said the false news has caused great damage to her and her reputation.

“I honestly felt really bad, it’s like all of my dignity and pride just got thrown out of the window, it’s like I lost all respect from people, people gonna look at me differently….. And no I didn’t give anyone permission to post or publish such stories about me on the internet,” the 19-year-old told ANN.

While Thomas is considering legal action for the publication on the internet, there was a screenshot on her personal Facebook profile of an HIV test result indication that she is HIV positive . When asked about the screenshot on her personal Facebook profile, Thomas said her account was hacked.

“I actually don’t know how it happened because someone hacked my account, I didn’t send out that and I didn’t say such things,” Thomas told ANN.

She added that where videos circulating on the internet of her were concerned, she did not release them.

Thomas said she is unaware of how the rumor about her having and spreading HIV started.

“To be honest I don’t know where people getting this thing where I have HIV because my facebook account was hacked.

I’m hearing that videos were leaking of me and the person who is responsible for the hacking of my facebook account posted saying that I had sex with a guy name……. (name omitted) who they said supposedly have AIDS”, Thomas lamented. She said people are saying that ” he (the alledged HIV victim) ejaculated in me and now I’m pregnant with a child that’s gonna get HIV. But that’s not true, the young woman told ANN. She added “after that videos and rumors spreading saying that I’m spreading HIV,” she said.

The 19-year-old said she did an HIV test before the one today and it was also negative.

She said that if she has an opportunity to live her life all over again, she would do so “by doing the right thing and never find my self in such such situations”.

They are too wicked in SVG. I thought the same thing when I saw the news. Stop telling lies on women. This news/defamation was spread all over the world. They knew she was poor and they took advantage to post such nasty things about this young lady. I hope she take matters legally. The same news outlet needs to apologise as well. This defamation is enough to send this young lady to the mental house. When will this stop? Wickedness to the highest degree.

She should pursue taking legal action against everyone. It was wrong to post personal information for the world to see. This is so low of those involved and wicked too.
