The Argyle International Airport has seen remarkable success in its short operational period, this is according to this country’s Minister of Finance.

Minister of Finance Hon. Camillo Gonsalves said the performance of the airport in such a short period of time and amidst pandemics and natural disasters is amazing. He said this success can be attributed to the exceptional quality leadership of this country and the work of previous and the current Minister of Tourism.

“The success of the AIA in a short period of time is absolutely incredible, this last year 2024, the AIA turned a profit, by itself! I as Minister of Finance did not expect that, we had plans in our budget to continue subsidizing AIA…because we thought it would take years to build up enough airlift to get to that point where it could carry itself… the speed of the adoption of AIA has been really incredible,” the Minister remarked.

This country has also seen in excess of 100 thousand stay-over visitors in a single year (2024). Speaking on radio on Monday, the Minister also noted that there are plans to enhance the capacity of the airport in the interim, pending an expansion programme.

The Minister said there are measures that will come into effect in the interim, to make the airport more efficient, including ensuring adequate staffing to meet the growing demand on the services of the airport.
