The Carnival Development Corporation (CDC) is deeply saddened by the
passing of an iconic legend Lennox “Scully” Hunte, a former Handicraft
Officer in the then Ministry of Education, Youth and Community
Development.
Lennox “Scully” Hunte was an Artistic Designer par excellence, an
outstanding craftsman and an extraordinary mas maker and bandleader who won three (3) Band of the Year titles in 1969, 1970 and 1973.
His greatest masquerade presentation was the highly creative “In the Hands of the People” which took the Band of the Year title in both the Judges and
People’s Choice categories in 1973.
Overall, his contribution to cultural development in St. Vincent and the
Grenadines spanned five (5) decades culminating in his two (2) most
recent triumphs, that of copping the 2015 King of the Bands title “An
Eastern Interlude” from Ahdrenalin Mas “An Eastern Travelogue” and the
2019 Queen of the Bands title with the fantastic design of “Spirobranchus
Giganteus – A Christmas Tree Worm” from SVG Players International’s
“Wonders of Nature”.
His artistic expertise and creative designs were not confined to his
homeland St. Vincent and the Grenadines but extended to the Caribbean,
North America, and Europe.
