The St Vincent and the Grenadines Football Federation (SVGFF), through its Technical Committee, has embarked on a process aimed at forging a national identity for this country’s Football.

Toward this end, the Technical Committee, last Saturday, hosted the first of a series of consultations involving Head Coaches and/or Technical Directors of Premier and First Division Clubs – affiliates of the SVGFF.

Andrew Bramble, coach of the National Under-17 Female team and a member of the Technical Committee, explained , at the end of last Saturday’s session that, “The consultations are aimed primarily at Club Football in St Vincent and the Grenadines and coaches, and getting our players up to standard where we can identify with the national philosophy.”

He noted that the need for that national identity and philosophy has been recognized and embraced after carefully analyses overtime.

“We know that we have had players who were very good at the club level and in the national competitions, and when it came to the national team their whole aptitude and attitude are different… So we are hoping to put certain things in place,” Bramble said.

He noted, “We would be working with the clubs….. developing coaches in terms of coaching education, where we can have better coaches being able to put the national programme in place with their members.”

The expectation, according to Bramble, is that “…when a player comes to the national team, when the coach says that he/she is playing in the number 10 position, that player will immediately know what are his/her responsibilities… We are hoping to create and prepare players to think critically.”

It is intended that all of this will lead to a “curriculum guide” which will facilitate the way Football is administered, structured and played in St Vincent and the Grenadines, resulting ultimately in “a better brand of Football for St Vincent and the Grenadines as we go forward,” Bramble concluded.

Also taking a lead in last Saturday’s consultation were” General Secretary of the SVGFF- Devron Poyer; Second Vice- President of the SVGFF- Wayne Grant; Technical Director of SVG’s Football- Keith Ollivierre; and Theon Gordon, a member of the Technical Committee.
