Dear Editor
There is a noticeable trend of resignation amongst the nursing profession in St.Vincent and the Grenadines. This however has nothing to do with vaccination as they would like the public to believe.
For too long Nurses have been complaining about the complaints being pushed under the rug. Working Conditions at the MCMH are enough to cause mental breakdowns. Nurses are being forced to work without subordinated and other team players, such as Nursing assistants, ward assistants, and female attendants.
The administrative staff is bullying nurses by demanding that they do the work of those mentioned above. Nurses are labeled as lazy, not flexible, and cannot manage the ward if they complain about the workload. One staff nurse and One nursing assistant is designated to work 12-hour shift ( nights) with up to 30 patients.
Staff Nurses are reported constantly by some doctors when something for a patient isnt done.Nurses are ill and sometimes force to come to work because they are threatened that they are taking too much sick days.
Persons not even off of the year probation are forced to run wards and work in critical areas unsupervised. All these mentioned above are against the ICN code of ethics. These are unfair to the nurses and can be potentially detrimental
