The circumstances surrounding the death of 18-year-old Cjae Weekes are still under investigation.
On Wednesday February 2nd, 2022, the teenage resident of Argyle, was hospitalized with multiple injuries following an incident with the police.
Cjae’s spine was broken which left him paralyzed from the chest down, his left leg was broken and there were large bruises about his body.
His mother, Natasha Weekes said her son relayed that he was run over by police, who had chased him and a friend while riding their motorbikes, from Questelles to Vermont.
Meanwhile, Colin John, Commissioner of Police said that the matter is being investigated but said that based on reports from officers and witnesses the teen was not run over by the police transport. Family, friends, and well-wishers who were touched by the young man’s story came together to honor him on what would have been his 19th birthday on Friday, February 18th, 2022.
The streets were filled with persons wearing white, some even wearing tee-shirts with printed images of Cjae. They lit candles and marched from Benette Junction to the police station in Mesopotamia, then made their way to his home in Argyle.
They sang and danced as they celebrated his life. Cjae was loved by those who knew him and had an unforgettable smile, according to friends.
He intended to join the Royal St Vincent and the Grenadines Police Force and began filling out his application form, with his mother the day before he was hospitalized. He will be laid to rest on Saturday February 26th at the Kingdom Life Tabernacle, Mesopotamia.
