On Thursday March 3rd, 2022, Commissioner of Police Colin John said that the investigation into the incidents that lead to the death 18-year-old Cjae Weekes is almost complete.
The teenage biker was involved in a police chase, which he told his mother took place after he failed to comply with the police’s request to pull over. Weekes was hospitalized at the Milton Cato Memorial Hospital after the incident, on Wednesday February 2nd, 2022, with multiple injuries. He died the following Sunday.
While speaking on Boom Fm, the Commissioner stated that they are awaiting one medical report to complete their investigation.
This report will be from the doctor who initially attended to Cjae Weekes when he arrived at Accident and Emergency at the Milton Cato Memorial Hospital. Once complete, a file will then be sent to the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions for further advice as to the circumstances surrounding the incident.
When asked about speculations of a broken axel on the police transport which was involved, the COP said, “I can say that the vehicle that was involved in the pursuit of the motorcycle that Mr. Weekes was driving… was riding, sustained some damage. I do not know the extent of the damage that the vehicle sustained.”
The transport is currently at a police garage.
The investigation is being conducted by a Senior Officer, Nero who oversees the Questelles Police Station.
According to the COP, Officer Nero has a wealth of experience with traffic matters and is both competent and appropriate to carry out the investigation. Commissioner John also said that he has spoken to Weekes’ parents and provided them with the autopsy report when they requested it.
ANN was reliably informed that Weekes family has solicited the service of Lawyer Jomo Thomas.
