    Greiggs Primary Bosses MFA Football

    Greiggs Primary School finished as the lone unbeaten team, when the inaugural Memorial Funeral Home Marriaqua Football Association (MFA) Primary Schools Football Competition concluded last Wednesday at the Cane End Playing Field.

    Greiggs tallied 19 points from six wins and one draw.

    On the final day of competition, Greiggs Primary needed to avoid defeat to claim the title. They confirmed their dominance with a 2-1 win over Marriaqua Government, their goals coming from Daveson Williams and Kimon Pope and Marriaqua’s via an own goal.

    This was Marriaqua’s first loss but they secured second place with 14 points from four wins, two draws and one loss.

    Richland Park Seventh Day Adventist Primary, with 13 points from four wins, one draw and two losses, docked in third.

    The rest of the standings saw Cane End Government (13 points), Belmont Primary (4 points), Richland Park Government (3 points), and Evesham Methodist (1 point).

    Awards

    Not only did Greiggs Primary win the title, but it left the venue with the most individual awards.

    Among these: Most Valuable Player- Daveson Williams; Best Goalkeeper- Kevorn Philips; Best Striker- Delano Jones; and Best Defender- Kesson Durrant.

    Richland Park SDA’s John D Prescott was the leading goal scorer with 12 goals, while Carlon Timothy of Marriaqua Government took the Best Midfielder award.

    Among the female awardees were Akilah Sutherland of Marriaqua Government, who was the lone female to score in the competition.

    Juliana Williams of the Argyle Primary, was the only female captain.

    Also rewarded were the MVPs of each of the eight participating school teams.

    The recipients were Dillon Nicholls- Evesham Methodist; Kayay Mars- Cane End Government; Carlon Timothy– Marriaqua Government; Ryan Williams- Richland Park Government; Delano Jones- Greiggs Primary; Isiah Nelson-Argyle Primary; Alex Jordan- Belmont Primary; and John D Prescott – Richland Park SDA.

    Plans are afoot to make this Competition an annual affair.
