Commissioner of Police Colin John, in an interview on Boom 106 Fm confirmed that the investigation into the death of motorcyclist Cjea Weekes is completed and will proceed to a Coroner’s Inquiry.
John was responding to questions of whether or not a copy of the investigation’s report was given to lawyer Jomo Thomas. The COP confirmed that yes he hand delivered the report to lawyer Barnwell who also practices out of the Chambers of Jomo Thomas.
As it relates to what Jomo Thomas was saying on the radio about what was inside of the report the COP says he is not surprised but disappointed that the lawyer would talk about what was in the report so carelessly on radio. He stated that the matter is going forward to an inquiry so the lawyer should know not to openly discuss certain information that is in the report.
Commissioner John further questioned if there were no longer any ethics in the legal practice. In relation to the claims that Thomas made about the report being redacted, the COP says that pertinent information like witnesses names and address and personal information was redacted but not their statements.
The COP further states that lawyer Jomo Thomas spoke about the redaction to make it seem like they were trying to cover up information.
