Minister of Health, Wellness and the Environment Hon. St Clair Prince will address the 75th World Health Assembly (WHA) today May 24, 2022. Minister Prince leads a three-member delegation who are currently in Geneva, Switzerland for the international forum.
The team includes Deputy Lead, Chief Medical Officer Dr. Simon Keizer – Beache and Delegate, Director of Health Security, Donna Joyette-Bascombe. The team will represent St Vincent and the Grenadines in the General Discussion and Plenary sessions and has presented a proposal for the Supplementary Agenda Item “Inviting Taiwan to participate in the World Health Assembly as an Observer”.
While there, the team will also engage in bilateral discussions on health-related matters including Chronic Non-Communicable Diseases, Emergency Preparedness, Infectious Diseases, among others.
The team will also be part of the election of a new President of the World Health Assembly and also a Director General of the World Health Organsation (WHO).
The World Health Assembly is the decision-making body of World Health Organisation, while the World Health Organisation is the United Nations agency which deals with matters of International Public Health.
