The Ministry of Health recently received a quantity of items from the Toronto-based group CARI-ON SVG.
According to local representative Diana Bailey, among the items donated were hand sanitizers, dialysis equipment and medical trolleys valued at over EC$200,000.
Bailey explained that the dialysis equipment was organized by Carlos Charles, a dialysis specialist, and the hand sanitizers were donated by Shelley John, Marketing Director SVG Tourism in Toronto.
CARI-ON SVG facilitated the cost of the freight, which Bailey said amounted to CDN$4,860.
It is the second such donation to be made to the Ministry of Health by the Vincentian group operating out of Toronto.
Bailey said that the group worked along with other local NGO’s including the Lions Club, and it was decided that they develop a relationship with the Ministry of Health.
“It is a new relationship that we are building with the Ministry of Health… we hope that it can get stronger,” Bailey said.
Steve Millington, Manager of the Medical Stores Department within the Ministry of Health, expressed his gratitude at the official handover on May 26.
He said that the dialysis equipment would be sent to the Diagnostics Centre in Georgetown and the hand sanitizers were distributed throughout various governmental departments.
