The St Vincent Brewery Ltd (SVBL) continues in its goal of being a leader in SVG in building a positive workplace for its employees.
SVBL has empowered its employees to come up with programmes that would strengthen company camaraderie and pride within the company that they work for. Out of this came a new in-house social programme called the Internal Pride Campaign.
The Internal Pride Campaign strives to make SVBL employees feel that they have a sense of belonging at their workplace and a strong sense of family. The concept is meant to be a casual one and is intended to be a permanent fixture of the SVBL landscape.
The Internal Pride Campaign was able to draw from the current internal Awareness Programme at SVBL.
The Awareness Programme includes the use of digital kiosks in prominent spaces, around the Campden Park compound, like the Commercial Department and the staff canteen, to raise the profile of employees and to create a greater understanding between SVBL departments.
As part of this Awareness Campaign, two (2) employees per month are interviewed and featured on the kiosk screen, talking about their departments and roles. This was one of the avenues for promoting the Internal Pride Campaign.
According to Terry Clarke, Financial Analyst at SVBL, the Internal Pride Campaign is built around the idea that the “team that plays together, stays together”. Mr Clarke plans and executes events – such as fundays, to be held every quarter at a different location.
The first event for this Internal Pride Campaign was a company-wide fun-day held on Mount Wynne Beach on Saturday 6th August, from 10 pm to 7pm. The event was deemed a success with a turnout of over 100 SVBL employees and their friends, despite inclement weather.
The event was organized via its internal company WhatsApp chat group, with much excitement expressed in the chat group, leading up to the event date.
After the event, one of the daily-paid workers Percival Samuel commented “yesterday was really good, keep up the good work!”
Country Manager Shafia London also commented that she felt the targets for the event were met and was enthused by the turnout.. “I continue to be inspired by our team, their creativity and drive. This initiative reflects our internal values and those of our worldwide parent company ABI – “Bringing people together for a better world”.”
Employees are eagerly anticipating the next event and the Brewery intends to keep giving its support to this forward-thinking initiative.
