The event is expected to make its long-awaited return this December, and will include SVG’s very own dancehall trailblazer.
In an exclusive interview with ANN Sita expressed elation at being booked for the event, saying it gave her a ‘sense of relief’ having someone see value in her vision as a dancehall artiste.
‘I am honestly excited about being booked for the event. Sting is a Major platform, dubbed the greatest night in dancehall and a lot of dancehall artistes that we have come to recognise as superstars got their big break there. It is great to know that the promoter believes in my talent enough to perform among these talents. This booking also definitely gives me a sense of relief , I am not crazy after all for believing that I can grace such a huge stage and showcase my talent, I am not crazy for believing in my dream.’ The Lyrical Diva said.
Sita also said that “Mc Nuffy has played pivotol role in promoting me”. I will wake up to random messages from him like Sita you are a star, I am so proud of you. Sita just remain focused you’re going to make it. When I said nuffy thanks for assisting with getting me booked for sting, he responded “Sita stop speaking like it’s my influence that got you there , yes I promoted you with that intent but sting does not book joke artiste, if you were not talented you would not be booked”
ANN also caught up with popular Jamaican entertainer Andrew Nelson aka Mc Nuffy, who is also known as the ‘top trainer’ in dancehall, who related to us his discovery of Sita, and his belief in her talent and potential.
‘I see Sita pop up on my instagram when I was strolling on my page and I see her doing a cover for Vybz kartel the king of Dancehall in Jamaica and she slap the song out of style it was amazing to me so I DM har an say send that video to I’m going to post it and from that day I became a fan because she reminds me of one of my student in dancehall who I bring to the world,’ Nelson said.
McNuffy said following that he called on Sita to perform at several events in the United States and she followed through with impressive performances every time. In his words ‘she shell it dung’.
McNuffy expressed that he believes that Sita deserves to be on the show, giving her high ratings in the lyrics department. He said he’s not the only one on his team that sees her potential as his colleagues Laing and Heavy Dee are the ones responsible for bookings for the event, and it was ultimately their decision to have her perform.
Nelson said that no matter which format Sita performs in at the event, he has a strong belief that she will make an impact, proclaiming her to be ‘the next female dancehall giant’.
‘She deserve to be on this show because when it comes to lyrics she have it in ova drive St Vincent trust me you guys going to be proud of your girl Sita lyrical clash or regular performance she ago lock it dung I believe in her she is a very confident person very brave full of knowledge the next dancehall female Giant’ McNuffy said.
Sita Di Lyrical Diva was born Vasita Caine in Old Montrose. Following the separation of her parents, she then moved to Fairbane Pasture. She attended Belair Government School and then later the St. Joseph’s Convent Marriaqua, according to Caine it was while attending that school that she realized that she was going to make music her career.
‘It was there that I realised that I was going to be a professional singer after being challenged by the Social Studies teacher to address a Social ill via music. I used the melody for Beenie Man’s gyal prayer and from then I became cognizant of the fact that I too can write music.’ she said.
Caine would then go on to compete in several freestyle battles against male competitors at the St. Vincent and the Grenadines Community College. After completing her tenure at the institution she recorded her first song with Kamal Archibald of Sound Domain studios. Then going onto work on a number of tracks with Dougal Allen of Megga Wattz production. Sita says it’s one of those very tracks that made her a household name here in St. Vincent and the Grenadines.
‘The song “kitchen dunce” was loved by everyone and immediately cemented my name as the first official female dancehall artiste on the island.’
Sting is set to make its long awaited return on December 26th of this year. It will see a host of notable names in the dancehall arena including our very own Sita Di Lyrical Diva.
