Jerry Maloney, a resident of Stubbs, who was remanded on a grievous bodily harm charge, has been released on bail.
Maloney has been charged with unlawfully and maliciously inflicting grievous bodily harm on his sister, Petranella Maloney, on December 31.
He pleaded not guilty when he initially appeared at the Kingstown Magistrate’s Court on January 3 but was remanded until January 6 for bail review, pending a medical report on the victim’s condition.
Prosecutor Shamrock Pierre had objected to bail on the basis that the victim was hospitalized, and in need of blood before undergoing surgery.
However, on Maloney’s return to Court on January 6, the Prosecution, this time represented by Crown Counsel Rose Ann Richardson, waivered its objection to bail on the basis that the victim, though still hospitalized, was in a stable condition.
Bail was granted in the sum of $2,500 with one surety on the condition that the defendant has no contact with the victim.
The matter has been transferred to the Calliaqua Magistrate’s Court and adjourned to a later date.
Maloney is alleged to have used a hammer to inflict injuries on his sister. She is reported to have received an injury to her head, and a broken leg.
We were reliably informed on Tuesday that the victim is now out of the hospital.
