    Road Repair Is A Duty

I don’t really care what others might think of what I have to say, but our roads have never been in such bad condition. Yes, the roads in this country have been the worst under the Unity Labour Party government led by Dr. Ralph Gonsalves and I would challenge anyone to tell or prove to me that it is not so.

They have failed to attend to road repairs in a regular manner like it used to be so now they have to spend millions on road repairs, not on building new roads, and people should realize this. And because of that they now have to spend millions, they make it sound like they are doing the people of this country a favour. Road repair is not a favour from government, it is a duty. Governments are elected to take care of our needs and proper roads are an important need in any country.

The problem with this million-dollar road repair programme, Mr. Editor, which the government said will begin to roll out in this financial year, is that some places are going to have to put up with bad roads for some time. As a matter of fact, it looks like this road repair programme will go into 2025 and this, will make a good election gimmick for the ULP.

I feel insulted when whether it’s the Prime Minister, Finance or Roads Ministers make it sound as though we should be thankful that they are repairing the roads. As I said before, that’s their duty and they should stop trying to make it look like it’s because of the ULP why certain things happen in this country.

So, we look forward to the road repair programme and as far as I am concerned, I owe the ULP government nothing in return.

I am a taxpayer, too, and have been for a very long time.

    Colin
